Introduction


A one day course leading to the City and Guilds 2079 Category 4 Leak Testing qualification.

This course can also be take in conjunction with the Maintenance course.

Objective


To provide operatives with the knowledge and practical skills required to undertake leak checking of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat-pump equipment that contains either fluorinated ('F') gases or ozone depleting substanes (ODS)and to take their 2079 Category 4 Leak Testing assessment

Methodology


Theory will be covered by means of a presentation and discussion session. Practical work will be carried out on real working systems. A full set of course notes will also be provided.

The assessment is a mixture of theory and practical. Theoretical knowledge is tested by means of an on-line, multiple choice question paper. Practical aptitude is tested by means of a practical assignment.

Synopsis


The following learning outcomes will be covered:

• Identify basic standard units
• Identify the causes and effects of global warming and climate change
• Identify the causes and effects of ozone depletion
• Identify stationary refrigerant, air conditioning and heat-pump system leakage risk
• Identify the hazards and safe working practices for the leak checking of stationary refrigerant, air conditioning and heat-pump systems
• Undertake leak checking and record keeping
