Welcome to Practical Refrigeration Training Centre

PRTC is an independent training company offering a wide range of refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pump, refrigerant handling, design and electrical courses.
Accredited to City and Guilds, we run short courses and also full NVQ Diplomas.
The facility's major strength is its wide range of typical refrigeration and air conditioning systems to give practical hands-on training.

With a practical emphasis to all our courses our comprehensive range of refrigeration and air conditioning modules have recently been enhanced by the addition of a number of electrical courses including the 17th Edition City and Guilds 2382-15, Inspection and Testing City and Guilds 2394-01, and Portable Appliance Testing City and Guilds 2377-22. Recognising the increasing importance of electrical knowledge within the refrigeration and air conditioning industry but also suitable for practising or trainee electricians (any pre-requirements are shown on the course synopses) full details can be found opposite and on our calendar.

Refrigerant Handling courses include F Gas certification City and Guilds 2079, Hydrocarbon Refrigerant Handling City and Guilds 6187-21 and Ammonia Refrigerant Handling City and Guilds 2078-02. All of these can be taken as individual, stand alone modules but the F Gas and Hydrocarbon qualifications can also be taken as part of longer courses for less experienced engineers.

A wide range of other courses include Service, Maintenance and Installation of Refrigeration or Air Conditioning equipment, Copper Brazing, and Application and Design. Bespoke courses are also available.

For apprentices, or those just starting out in the RAC industry, extended NVQ Diploma courses offer an in depth study programme at either level 2 or level 3. Level 2 will usually take 18 months to complete while level 3 will complete in just over 12 months. Incorporating similar teaching methods to those used in the short courses learning is by block release, not day release, and practical work again forms an intrinsic part of the learning process.

Located just 10 minutes from the M65, accessibility to major road and rail networks and also several international airports means there is no need to miss out wherever you are based. For companies with groups of engineers requiring training and suitable facilities we can come to your premises, providing a flexible package to meet your needs.
